A quaint little cottage in the valley...

E. Clifford (Pap) Sherman had a dream of buying a piece of land and building a cool, summer home on Marsh Creek Road. There, he could make a cup of coffee, relax on the front porch, and watch the fish jump in the stream out back. Gram could cook Sunday dinner on an old-fashioned cook stove. And later, the entire family could gather around the fireplace for one of Pap's wonderful stories while enjoying roasted marshmallows and mountain pies.
In 1967, Pap bought a one-acre site up Marsh Creek which would be the foundation for his dream. One year later, his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Kathy Sherman (your hosts) made their home on the adjoining acre. Every day, Pap would travel up and down the road, working in homes along the valley to raise enough money to build his summer dream home. In 1970, his hard work had come to fruition.
| In the cottage, Pap and Gram had found peace and quiet,
and they relished in the time they could share with each other and with
family. Pap would tinker with the fire and feed the ducks; Gram would
shine the cook stove and cook wonderful meals. Sunday dinner at the
cottage became a family tradition. Pap had built more than a cottage.
He had built a home where all of their hearts would forever live. Pap passed away in 1983, but his legacy was left not just within his family, but also within each nook and cranny of the cottage. Now, with an empty seat at the table and the upkeep becoming more than she could manage, Gram decided to sell the cottage. In 1985, an out-of-town couple purchased the cottage. Then, in 2003, the couple sold it to an elderly gentleman. Unfortunately, a year later, he lost his battle with cancer. Knowing that the opportunity might never again present itself, Dennis and Kathy decided to bring the cottage back into the family and restore their heirloom. Now, after a year of renovations by the hands and hearts of Pap's family, Dennis and Kathy Sherman would like to officially welcome you to Pap's Cottage and invite you to share in their heart-warming tradition. |
